Measuring diameter with digital calipers

You can measure the diameter of the oil sump plug using a digital caliper (recommended as the best method). The width of the plug is the thing you need. For example, if the plug measures 14mm, you should look for the oil drain plug size like- “M14 -1.5 Threads.” The “M14” is the diameter based on the widest part of the threads.

Measuring thread pitch

With the assistance of a thread pitch gauge, you can measure thread pitch in millimeters or in threads (per inch). For example, Femco’s M12x1.25 will have a pitch of 1.25, as determined by the metric measurement.
